Cranberries are native to all Northern states where they are commercially grown except Oregon.

Cranberries are harvested in September and October. Once they are harvested they may be shipped to a processing plant or as some growers do, process the berries themselves. As they are processed for juices, dried fruit and sauces the seeds are removed. Cranberry seeds are the source of Omega 3 from cranberries. Seeds from every North American grower are collected and used in the production of omega 3 from cranberries. Some cranberries will not end up as juice, dried fruit or cranberry sauce. They will be shipped to a manufacturer of healthful products. These companies too remove seeds before processing. Some of these companies will process their own seeds into omega 3 from cranberries.

The process that releases the oil from the seed is a cold press extraction method. This method is said to be the reason cranberry oil is mild in flavor with no after taste. This one characteristic is the reason many products will be fortified with omega 3 from cranberries. Omega 3 from cranberries is not only reported to be a great alternative to other omega 3 sources, but soon may be a stand alone product rather than an ingredient.
